J-Term VISION Trips

During J-Term VISION experiences, you'll have the possibility to explore the world and see issues of social justice beyond our context. Serve more intentional time and immerse yourself in the culture and the situations of the place you're serving.

J-Term 2027 Program Timeline:

  • Program Applications:
    • Rolling application process from April 1, 2026 – October 11, 2026
      • First Round Review - Priority Application Period: Applications submitted by May 10, 2026, will be reviewed, and decisions will be communicated by May 29, 2026.
      • Second Round Review: Applications submitted after May 10 will be reviewed during the summer and early fall, with final decisions communicated by October 16, 2026.
      • Final Application Deadline: October 11, 2026, by 4 PM
  • Application Decisions: Will be communicated to applicants, along with scholarship information, by May 29, 2026, and October 16, 2026.

  • Participant Commitment:

    • A non-refundable $250 deposit is due by November 6, 2026.
    • All program participants are required to attend the large group orientation in December (final details will be communicated)
  • Final Payment:

    • Charged to the student account in J-Term.
    • Participants will receive a program in December. Full program bill must be paid with Spring tuition.
    • Once flights are confirmed students students are responsible for the cost of VISION program if student cancellation is requested. All cancellations must be submitted in writing. The VISION program follows the

    Experience new ways of thinking and seeing the world in partnership with Pachaysana across Ecuador.

    Program Overview
    This VISION experience will be packed with opportunities to engage with local communities across Ecuador, all with the purpose of understanding the past in order to live for a more just present and future. You will have the opportunity to engage with the juxtapositions and bridges between ancestral cultures and colonial ones, immerse yourself in understanding about the relationships between land and identities, and gain insights about environmental justice and indigenous ways of knowing. If you are ready for a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn, reflect, act, and create, this VISION experience is for you.

     

    Program Dates: January 8-21, 2027

    This VISION trip cost is projected to be $4,500.

    All inclusive: Flights, lodging, meals, transportation and experiences.

    We encourage all interested students to apply for the VISION program scholarships as part of the program application. Consideration will be given to applicants who exhibit substantial financial need as determined by the St. Thomas financial aid office.

    • Collaborate on Community Projects: Work alongside The Center's staff on initiatives that address local needs, fostering mutual learning and impactful change.​
    • Cultural Immersion: Experience daily life in Quito, engaging with local traditions, languages, and customs to gain a profound appreciation of Ecuadorian culture.​
    • Educational Exchange: Participate in academic discussions and workshops focusing on education, health care, legal assistance, and technical training—fields pivotal to regional development.

    Join us for VISION J-Term 2027 and be part of a journey that fosters cross-cultural connection, critical reflection, and a commitment to social impact.

    This experience is open to BUSN 200 students only.

    Program Dates: January 7-17, 2027

    Embark on a transformative journey with VISION J-Term 2027 to Quito, Ecuador, a city rich in culture and history. This program offers students an immersive experience, engaging deeply with local communities and exploring the complexities of social justice, economic disparity, and educational sustainability.

    This VISION trip cost is projected to be $3,500.

    This VISION experience is a partnership with BUSN 200.

    All inclusive: Flights, lodging, meals, transportation and experiences.

    We encourage all interested students to apply for the VISION program scholarships as part of the program application. Consideration will be given to applicants who exhibit substantial financial need as determined by the St. Thomas financial aid office.

    Established over 60 years ago by Jesuit priest Father John Halligan, The Center: A Family of Families provides holistic care for children and their families in Quito.

    Their services include education, hot meals, health care, legal assistance, ministerial support, and technical training in various fields, all designed in response to the evolving needs of the community.
